I've been trying to figure out how, as a company that deals with thousands of pounds of paper, we could actually try to go green.
Well if you try hard enough, you can find small victories everywhere.
We have changed the internal packaging for mail outs to 100% post consumer recycled chip board. It is 65% less dense than our previous packaging as well, reducing the weight and overall size of the packages.
After tracking the number of forms we distributed versus the number we received back, we no longer distribute paper order forms prior to photo day. Individual customers can download and print forms ahead of time and we provide forms on photo day. We are now using approximately 30% less paper.
Probably the largest difference happened several years ago and has gone unnoticed until now: going digital.
We no longer use paper proof for any of our jobs. Everything is taken care of on the Internet, or in house on our system.
It requires 300 ml of chemicals to process two rolls of 36 exposure 35mm film.
We shoot over 15,000 images a year. If we were processing film, we would be using 62,500 ml of chemicals a year!
We are currently working with our lab to come up with additional ideas as well. Going green is not as difficult as you may think.
Start small. Just start somewhere!
